Google makes changes to SEO protocol

, 20 March 2005
Google has introduced a series of changes to its ranking algorithm.
Dubbed by Google forum users ‘Allegra’, the latest update has reportedly left some websites behind, while shunting others up the rankings. Filtering out websites that have had readability sacrificed for optimisation is a growing trend at Google and Allegra reportedly builds on the practice.
Experts suggest that Google may be looking out for links pages designed for the sole purpose of raising link popularity and the search engine is giving greater prominence to those web pages designed with visitors rather than search robots in mind. Search engine optimisation is becoming an increasingly complex market, as changes to sites such as Google and MSN occur more often and search engines look more closely for evidence of websites attempting to manipulate results.
