New SSL technology to improve online security

Friday, 28 November 2003
New developments are set to improve the application performance of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, increasing the security of the online transfer of sensitive data.

NetLightning SSL, developed by Netli, makes significant improvements to SSL end-user performance, tackling problems of businesses employing security measures that are not matched by their customers.

“As enterprises attempt to extend their Web applications to users in remote geographies they are increasingly looking to SSL to secure traffic,” explained NetForecast president Peter Sevcik to Business Wire.

“Poor application performance often results in lack of end-user adoption of these business-critical applications. SSL applications that perform well locally will experience unacceptable performance when accessed by a global user base,” he added.

The widespread adoption of improved SSL services could encourage businesses to extend operations on a more widespread scale, with technology such as NetLightning giving them the ability to operate secure, global SSL applications.

It is expected that global SSL will soon operate in much the same way as on local levels, encouraging secure data transfer between businesses and Internet users.
