Turkish character .tr (Turkey) domain names launched
Wednesday, 29 November 2006The domain name administrator for the .tr Country Code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) has announced that new Turkish character encoded web addresses are now available. The official .tr registry NIC.tr has stated that individuals and legal entities will be able to register new encoded domain names from 4th December 2006. The new character encoded domains were proposed by the .tr Domain Names Administration and approved by the DNS Working Group in October this year.
The registry has sent out a new statement announcing the creation of the character encoded web addresses and has revealed that applications for Turkish Internet addresses will be registered on a 'first come first served' basis.
Current owners of registered .tr domain names will be able to apply for the Turkish version of their American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) domain names from 4th December 2006 to 4th March 2007.
